My theory is that he showed up conveniently and was the one chosen to marry the queen for the sake of her image and respectability and after the wedding night he went OH SHIT WAIT and skipped off and she was so filled with rage and embarrassment she had him stricken from the records and that's why she's down in history as never having married.
