Troughton & action figures & series 4
Aug. 10th, 2007 05:14 pmI LOVE PATRICK TROUGHTON.
Possibly that's not news to anyone reading this journal, but I thought I'd say it anyway, since it's true and good and I watched Patrick Troughton in America today (an Exciting Documentary about PT doings cons and interviews in some country or other.) Which was Quite Difficult as I kept pausing it every minute or so because omg, teh squee. A big chunk is the PBS interview in New Jersey, what I've seen before, but there's so much other stuff and it is wonderful and beautiful and HE JUST MADE THE JOKE ABOUT IF THE DOCTOR'S GOT TWO HEARTS WHAT ELSE HAS HE GOT TWO OF? (Doctor Who fandom: stuck in a time loop of cheap lols since 1970.) Also he played the recorder for some fans at a con, O'er The Sea To Skye, I think. I KNOW PIPE BANDS PLAY IT ANYWAYS.
In more (as in additional, not as in greater, cause, really, nothing could be more squeeful than Pat Troughton I think you'll find) squeeful news, the people what make those lovely DW action figures have moved into the classic series. I shall, naturally, be having a quick whine about them not choosing all my favourite things for their first run, but mostly I'm thrilled that possibly maybe I might at some unforeseen time in the future have an ickle Romana and an ickle Eight and I CAN MAKE THEM HOLD THEIR LITTLE PLASTIC HANDS TOGETHER. I assume this is a totally normal want, yes.
Mostly my whining can be summed up with: OH FOR THE LOVE OF HINCHCLIFFE BIAS. In other words, it's bloody Classic Fanboy Opinion that seems to have informed which figures are out first. JOY.
Here's the list:
( Dr Who Classic 5” Carded figure Range - Wave 1 )
And while I'm thrilled with the Zygon, they've got three monsters and a Doctor all from the same sodding era, so that's four out of the seven. And that might be the era of the Doctor Everyone Knows Cause of the Scarf (except it's not really, cause it's all Hinchcliffe), but if the only thing you know about DW is The Bloke With The Scarf, you ain't gonna be buying Magnus Greel. (And neither am I, bloody Talons, and its dodgy racial undertones - if you're gonna bring out anything from that great over-rated... thing then bring out a Giant Rat and a tiny, tiny Leela to run away from it. THAT WOULD BE GOOD, YES.)
In their favour, Zygon!, plus Five not with daft long hair (one of the most trivial problems with Four to Doomsday: the Doctor's desperate need for a haircut) and Six looking at his snazziest, cause it's the beginning of his run when his hair was not like some separate blonde lifeform trying to float off the top of his head, yay!
Oh, great is my Action Figure Entitlement (but where's my Troughton and Jamie and Polly?) And though it's just Doctors and monsters for now, I'm hoping that anyone who's bringing out something as niche as a Voc twin pack will realise that an ickle Ace to accompany ickle Seven might possibly sell just as well.
One more thing! The Beeb released the first promo photo of Ten and the new companon along with some details of the next series. Donna looks lovely and I've every confidence it will be awesome sauce as soon as I see her onscreen, but my initial reaction was rather more But I Want My Martha Back Now. And I know she's coming back and she gets to be in that other series and her story isn't over and hopefully they've a satisfying resolution planned (I'm assuming this until I hear otherwise because if I hope she gets a third year, it will be a bit too misery if it doesn't happen) but I really, really loved her. She's up there with ma favourites, dude, and I didn't think that could ever happen with the New Series cause The Nostalgia Factor was just too strong. Martha & Two would be of Teh Awesome, yes.
