I no that cynical about the Doctor

I tend not to be most of the time myself, but my friend was suggesting that if he had done something... it was more accidental during the time vortex exchange. Something he'd done unconsciously as result of his wracking guilt ("The power is gonna kill you and it's my fault!" ) + momentary power of a god. Like some part of him was thinking, Oh Rose, I'm so so sorry. I promise I'll make you right again. You won't lose your innocence because of me... and she didn't, but he didn't mean to change her. Even if the change was just slight. I liked my friend's line of thinking (it does sound like something Nine might do), but yeah, it certainly isn't necessary (or all that canon supported). I could easily believe it was the result of the regeneration as well.

He no longer needed her in the same way that Nine did, and she reacted by becoming terrified he'd let her go and becoming needy/possessive.acting just like him to prove she should Stay Forever.

Thus the desperate girlfriend vibe in S2. Something akin to those girls who try to get pregnant believing that will secure the increasingly aloof boyfriend. Not that afterschool-specialy (thank god!) but a similar sort of behavior. No wonder my teeth grated so hard during that 'mortgage' scene. Which is ironic when I think about it... S2!Rose seemed to shift to me from 'desperate girlfriend' to this kind of annoying, smug fiance so confident in the power Her Great Love has over Her Man (yet doesn't realize her man is cheating on her or she doesn't know him nearly as much as about him as she believes or at all... but just about everyone else can see the writing on the wall so clearly). This utter confidence of being 'teh speshul 1 and only' in his life (until of course 10 - purposefully? - blindsided her, i.e. Reinette, Sarah Jane, "I was a dad once".... with seemingly little or absolutely none of it getting through to Rose at all, until her dad finally had to take her away).

And, ugh, I really need to learn the meaning of the word brevity.
