While encouraging new fen to check out the old stuff is great, saying NO RESPECT FOR YOU until they've watched three years of a very old telly series and twenty-five years worth of spinoffs is just silly. (Goodness knows I love it when New Who people check out old Who, and then end up writing screeds on how awesome it is and how they adore it - and I find it amazing that there are so many people who do end up loving classic - but a pox on You're Not A Real Fan Unless. (I, btw, am Not A Real Fan because I was not alive when Hartnell was on the telly. Trufax.])

Anyway, that rant: I like the questions they ask, I like them enough to answer them, oh yes. They are Important Trekkie Questions:

"One. Star Trek is the second oldest fandom in existence."

I like this bit cause I assume it means they think Doctor Who is the oldest, thus One could take Kirk in a fight.

"Two. Do not talk to me about cannon."

I won't. I will talk about canon though.

"Is the fifth movie cannon? (For each twenty of you saying, "Why are you even asking that?" there's a meek voice saying, "Maybe?")"

YES. Nothing meek about that. No-one shall take Captain Chekov from meeeee.

"What about the animated series? ("NO!")"

No, it is. Why? Cause Uhura gets to sit in the Captain's chair and be in command o the ship, hurrah!

"Should we stop counting the shows after Roddenberry died?"

Haha. No. Don't be silly.

"How much of Voyager is cannon? All of it? None of it?"

Oh, it all is. Yes, even Threshold. But that doesn't mean everyone sensible doesn't pretend it doesn't exist. Also anyone denying Counterpoint will get you a metaphorical smack on the nose.

"What about Enterprise?"

I like to pretend it's an episode of Quantum Leap. Though I do love T'Pol. And Soval.

"Should we stop counting DS9 after Jadzia dies?"

Does anyone actually think that?

"How many of the TNG movies do we count?"

All of them, alas. ::cries::

"Are there specific episodes in each series that are noncannonical and why?"

No. Wait...Angel One. Cause it really is that bad and doesn't have "made in the sixties" to vaguely excuse it.

We will lose days discussing this and it can lead to some bitter arguments.

I...oh, just insert some pithy comment about Who fandom, decades, and RADW.

To conclude, I'm one of those Trek fen who think DS9 is the be all and end all of Trekness, thus I don't really count anyway.
