What the shit was that? Probably there were bits that I didn't think wtf at. Mostly involving being shallow about Timothy Dalton.

The room hurled many variations of "hurry up and die!!" at the screen. Alas, tend to agree. WHAT HAPPENED TO PLOT OMG WHAT WHAT USUALLY ONE OF THOSE IS HELPFUL. I do not want to say anything about the womens because omg OMG WHAT DECADE DO YOU THINK THIS IS WTF.

Matt Smith moves beautifully. I hope he is good.

In conclusion, it was better than Monster of Peladon. WELL DONE.

"Seriously. It was almost REALLY GOOD for a bit and then it WENT TO FUCKING SHIT"

As I've said elsewhere, just like Journey's End... I mean, Davros was The Man, and then...

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
And of course, by "remorselessly beating Ten" I mean beating him _up_, not any kind of smutty metaphor or anything. ;D

I like to think because, unlike Gwen or RTD, he recognises that the Doctor is not omniscient and omnipresent and should not be the protector of humans to the exclusion of the universe's many other people in need.

Oh, that takes me back...

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I think you're right actually - I was only joking about the Jack thing. I like to think that Jack has seen enough bad shit go down in his time to know that things like that really do happen sometimes, and sometimes it's nobody's fault. I actually find the idea that he would be pissed at Ten about that to be too angsty, too RTD-ish if you will. I've always thought that one of the cool things about the Doctor and Jack was that they were equals in some sense, just as some of the classic companions were and as the NuWho companions have all-too-rarely been allowed to be...

Ahem, that was a bit off-topic, wasn't it? ;D

It always mystified me cos I love 3 & 7, albeit for different reasons.

Here you go. I have never wanted to flog Murray Gold and the sound mixers quite so badly.

You know how big a Tennant fan I am, but I'm ready for Eleven now, and am also doing my happy dance that I won't have to sit through another one of Rusty's crapfest finales.

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The music was INSANELY LOUD in the S5 trailer as well, I hope that's not a harbinger for the show itself (probably not, trailers being what they are, but...). Is Murray Gold staying on? She said, clinging to some shred of hope he isn't?

I am so excited for Eleven I can't believe it. "I'm a girl! No! Wait!"

I'm sorry to say that I've heard Murray is staying on. I like some of his work, but the really bombastic pieces, coupled with the atrociously loud mixing, are just awful.

MUST GO MAKE AN ELEVEN ICON NOW.

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
.....maybe the sound mixing will change? She prayed? So the dialogue is actually louder than the "background"music, at least occasionally? If there were a "Soundtrack Off" DVD option I swear I'd pay double for the privilege.

"MUST GO MAKE AN ELEVEN ICON NOW."

WHY DO WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL APRIL? I WANT IT NOOOOOWWW.

[identity profile] laurashapiro.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I just finished and it was so HORRID and I am ANNOYED. I was actually looking forward to crying when Ten died, and instead I was YELLING at him to SHUT UP ALREADY YOU BIG WHINER.

Gah.

Eleven looks promising, thank Moff.

That was totally what I was thinking. Well, that and "how is that Rassilon?"

[identity profile] txvoodoo.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Wilf was truly the saving grace in his interaction with the Doctor. The Doctor needs that humanity grounding him.

[identity profile] taraljc.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
What the shit was that?

My mum was VERY patient with me yelling at the television the entire time--including duing the Confidential, when I kept yelling "OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE!" at the screen a lot.

God, I want Moffat and his production team to be feted and adored and all of this to somehow have been worth the suffering.

(I will say this: I loved Susan. That was lovely. Only good thing in it.)

[identity profile] taraljc.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I am so angry that RTD has turned the Tenth Doctor into a whiny little shit. I loved the Doctor when this series began back in 2005. LOVED HIM. And I am so angry to have had that love eroded to the point where I watched the final two episodes solely so I could say YAY MOFF TIEM NAO.

I think what RTD intended is that the Time Lords resurrected him to fight in the war like they did the Master. My personal pet embellishment is that if this is the case, whatever device they used in both cases had the side-effect of making people into twerps.

Alternatively, this Rassilon stands in the same relationship to the legendary one as Romulus Augustulus does to Augustus.

[identity profile] laurashapiro.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
THIS. x eleventy. It is FRUSTRATING. I wanted to cry for him and I couldn't because he was such a jerk! And then all the self-indulgence of the ending. Just...ARGH.

MOFF TIEM NAO PLS.

His actual regeneration has nothing on his whinging to Wilf.

"WAAAH I COULD DO SO MUCH WHY DID YOU MAKE ME HAVE TO SAVE YOU I AM TOO AWESOME TO DIE"

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I heard about that and...wow. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME, WILF! IT'S NOT LIKE I'M GOING TO COME RIGHT BACK TO LIFE OR ANYTHING, NOOOOO!"

[identity profile] shobogan.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
It would have made so much more sense if he thought he was going to permanently die, like he was fearing back in the cafe. But no, apparently that bit was totally forgotten.

I don't mind the Doctor being reluctant and wistful about changing, but this was played up so damn much. Like he hasn't done it nine times already.

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Reluctant and wistful is one thing, losing his shit at an old, mortal man who clearly thinks the universe of him is another. IMO. I don't get it.

[identity profile] shobogan.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly. Don't make WILF feel bad because he saved someone and you now have to save him.

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
I was very WTF at it. Especially at the Martha and Mickey being married bit (what happened to Dr Tom FFS? and couldn't Mickey have a This Universe version of Jake?).

It seems the next Doctor may be rather awesome though, judging by the clips.

Three/five stories bore me rather a lot, and they seem dead keen on stripping UNIT of ALL DIGNITY.

[identity profile] fatpie42.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I think we all had moments like that. I heard the doctor say something and was all like "ah, so it's not over yet". At that point my friend told me that there were actually twenty minutes left.

And y'know what? Asides from Matt Smith's eventual appearance in the last minute, it really was already over.
