What the shit was that? Probably there were bits that I didn't think wtf at. Mostly involving being shallow about Timothy Dalton.

The room hurled many variations of "hurry up and die!!" at the screen. Alas, tend to agree. WHAT HAPPENED TO PLOT OMG WHAT WHAT USUALLY ONE OF THOSE IS HELPFUL. I do not want to say anything about the womens because omg OMG WHAT DECADE DO YOU THINK THIS IS WTF.

Matt Smith moves beautifully. I hope he is good.

In conclusion, it was better than Monster of Peladon. WELL DONE.

RTD has always had an interesting conception of "plot" when it comes to finales.

I am overjoyed at that glimpse of Matt Smith.

At about 7:30 I turned to [livejournal.com profile] inamac and remarked plaintively that there were still 25 minutes to go, and how the heck was RTD going to fill them? I might have known it would be by self-indulgent OOC rubbish.

Journey's End - that's what it reminded me of...and not in a good way...

Still, Matt looks okay from what little we've seen of him. Nice of Ten to leave Eleven in such a life-and-death situation from the get-go - typical Ten, though, thinking of himself first... ;D

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
My thoughts exactly... Although it isn't as if he hasn't pulled this crap before (cf. below comments regarding Journey's End).

Is it true that Ten went out kicking and screaming like a giant baby? *points and laughs* How far in does the regeneration happen? I don't give a shit about the rest, I just want to see some Eleven.

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much, yeah. And a couple of minutes from the end (even though he got killed twenty minutes earlier - Rusty just thought there was a bit more Ten!angst he had to cram in...).

[identity profile] melengro.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The regeneration happens at the very end after Ten spends TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES running around saying good-bye to Martha, Mickey [Martha and Mickey are married], Jack, Alonso Frame (SERIOUSLY), Donna, Luke, Sarah, Rose, and Jackie. TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES. After the 'plot' is over.

You know what the sad part is?

I'M NOT MAKING THIS UP.

He said rather sadly "I don't want to go" and then changed into Matt Smith. After he spent twenty minutes staring at old companions like an emo emo-person.

It was radiation poisoning, right? So "Planet of the Spiders" except with no dignity whatsoever, somehow that just fits.

Is it true that Ten went out kicking and screaming like a giant baby?

Oh man. *cackles down to the depths of my black black heart* Someone put this on the YouTube, pls??

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Internally whining "I'm soooooooooo lonelyyyyy I have nooooooooooobody who loooooooooves meeeeeee" all the while, doubtless. Good riddance.

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it true that he sort of fixed Jack up with Midshipman Frame? And that Donna never got her memories back?

[identity profile] whatho.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Spock did it better.

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That icon couldn't be more perfect, but then you knew that already.

[identity profile] melengro.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes and yes.
Well, actually, Donna gets her memories back and then loses them again after deploying a force field to kill a thousand or so Masters.
Also, Timothy Dalton's character turns out to be Rassilon. It is never explained how this is possible.

BETTER THAN PLANET OF THE SPIDERS. I do hate MUCH OF SEASON 11 a lotness.

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
How come? I've only seen bits and pieces of it.

[identity profile] aligoestonz.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You forgot Nurse wossname's granddaughter.

[identity profile] aligoestonz.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I got the impression RTD has been watching Star Wars a lot lately, and as much as I love Tennant, Cribbins was the best thing in that by a long chalk. Having seen the trailer, I'm really looking forward to Matt Smith.

[identity profile] lycoris.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That has given me a headache. Seriously. It was almost REALLY GOOD for a bit and then it WENT TO FUCKING SHIT so dramatically. Seriously, I just ... I DON'T UNDERSTAND. *rubs temples* And really, no one should ever be watching your main character die and screaming "DO. IT. FASTER." Is bad.

I thought it was a whole subtext in The Five Doctors that he was only sleeping and would come back like King Arthur if he was needed?

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
As one of my student drinking buddies used to say, "Dignity?! There is no dignity!!" So, yeah, about as embarrassing as a student drinking session, really.

I guess some people will like it, saying it shows the Doctor showing real emotion, responding realistically to his predicament etc, but for me it was reminiscent of the terrible "they break my heart" thing from The Next Doctor - just an excuse for pure angst-wallowing, and completely unworthy of a stoic, selfless hero like the good Doctor.

Although you could argue it was totally in character for Ten as written by Rusty...

[identity profile] jjpor.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, once and future king and all that... The Rassilon thing was actually by no means the most WTF thing about it all...I just assumed that in the darkest days of the Time War they somehow found a way to bring back their greatest hero ever - of course, we always knew Rassilon was a wrong'un going way back, so they got what they deserved! ;D

As for Jack...the most amazing thing about the Jack scene (and I'll admit that I quite like the cheesy Star Wars cantina ambience) was that Jack didn't fly across the room and start remorselessly beating Ten while screaming "WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU DURING CHILDREN OF EARTH, YOU BASTARD?!"

[identity profile] violetisblue.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I just watched a clip of the regen itself, and I'm starting to think he actually died from not being to find the speaker volume control before his eardrums exploded. I hope to God the sound mixers TURN IT DOWN for S5.
