I ignored Dog entirely on my first playthrough, on the basis of him BEING A DOG, then took him along for most of the second. "OH, that is what people are on about, he is Quite Good really."

I try REALLY HARD not to romance Alistair on new playthroughs and am not very good at that, ahem.
