Doctor Who: The Final Pantsdown

While there's many a foul neutral who maintains that both new and classic Who have their merits, far more sensible fen believe only one or the other reigns supreme, in the manner of some multi-limbed pan-galactic overlord.

And now I believe a way has been found to answer the question Once And For All. Through the medium of pants.

Well done, New Who, for reaching that very special merchandising point.

So, who wins?

Yer New Skool Pants

Yer Old Skool Pants

Old skool pants are pretty much in a different universe of good.

Those New Skool pants just don't look comfortable. I look at them and see itchy elastic marks. Yech.

Well, this is the same line of merchandising that brought us the "Men's..." um, something or other. Office set maybe? Something irritating and eye-rolling like that.

So obv, the answer to a Perfectly Sensible enquiry like that will most likely be no, boo.

I am deeply disturbed by the fact that in the bottom new skool one Ten is pointing his sonic screwdriver directly out of the crotch.

Old skool therefore wins because the Daleks have the decency to keep their plungers within the plane of the pants.

New would win, however, if they included a pair with Face of Boe the size of the Old Pants' image.

So many possible exciting images and they go for the Blatently Obvious, forshame!

[identity profile] livii.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The old skool ones are just classic. The new skool ones scare me a bit. Are they girls' underwear? They seem a strange mix of both. I don't know many men who would wear bright red high-cut undies with David Tennant's face right over their package. Even the gay men, srsly.

I had to vote old skool but I fear I might be cheap for someone in TARDIS pants. The Ten + pointy implement crotch would probably cause me to run away laughing though so it all balances out in the Great Scheme of Things.

Old Skool for the New is made of cheap-ass iron-on stickers that crack and peel rather disturbingly when not laid perfectly flat at all times. Hell, if we're going that route, I could do better myself. There would be glittery fabric paint for starters.
ext_17485: (Default)

[identity profile] calapine.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
If they were glittery that would be a bit cheating - no-one's not going to vote for GlitterPants! (TM)

I voted Old Skool because, regardless of whether you like the picture of Tom Baker, Daleks, and Sonic Skrew Driver or not, the picture is large, and nicely fills the field of the pants' front. But New Skool doesn't take full advantage -- it's as if New Skool can't decide whether to be Camp or Sophisticated, and therefore, fails at both.

Old Skool at least had the courage of its convictions...

Old Skool wins so easily.

[identity profile] fantasticangel.livejournal.com 2007-05-12 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Despite the fact I haven't seen any of the old Who since I was about 4 or 5, I voted old school because of the direct printing method. The new ones don't look as comfy.

[identity profile] kismeteve.livejournal.com 2007-05-12 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you go out and want to make sure you don't hook up with anyone, the Old Skool ones win. They're sort of the sartorial version of not shaving your legs.

While I personally wouldn't mind a bit of Tennant...

Okay, not going there.

Old Skool was the obvious choice. Tom just looks so bemused, as if he's surprised to have apparently woken up and found himself on pants. Then there is the beauty of the symmetry....Two nicely rounded Daleks and one big head. It's an image *made* for pants.

I find that both sad and appalling, forshame BBC merchandising people. LETTERS OF AWESOME COMPLAINTS SHOULD BE WRITTEN.

[identity profile] alawston.livejournal.com 2007-05-12 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
Damn the merchandisers for never ever releasing pants with:

a) Alpha Centauri
b) Vervoids
c) That bit from Creature From the Pit.

On the evidence though, old school wins for not having crappy text all over them. Opportunities to read people's pants being generally quite limited and kind of missing the point when they do arise, yes.

[identity profile] lesbiassparrow.livejournal.com 2007-05-12 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
I voted for new but only because they have undies with daleks on their own pointing threateningly and directly at all who attack you. And a Cyberman reaching out. But all of them would surely ruin any chance you ever had at having sex so I do rather hope they're not available in adult sizes.

[identity profile] the-mardy-bum.livejournal.com 2007-05-12 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
After that Parky interview, I too dreamed of having DT's face on my crotch.
Pity these don't come in big grown-up girls' sizes.

It's been my life-long dream to have Tom Baker on my crotch, so there's really only one correct answer:

Old Skool.

[identity profile] cameoflage.livejournal.com 2007-06-06 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Old Skool, hands down. I don't care so much about the images -- they just look about a hundred times more comfortable, what with the direct printing and the non-accordionated elastics.
