I think what makes me find the Ten/Jack ship endearing, more than anything else, is the fact that Ten calls him "Jack." Several times. Nine didn't do that. It makes me want them to hug lots more. Because I'm nauseatingly sentimental sometimes.

That isn't to say that I wouldn't be perfectly happy if all the fic ever written about the finale was purely concerned with Saxon. Because I would.

Also, any blonde woman guest-starring in New Who has nothing to do with Rose. They are all there because of Polly. Always. Because Polly was first and blonde and wore more mascara than Rose. And she bet Cybermen and redcoats and had Mad Plans that generally worked, thus making her very much like the Doctor. And sometimes people randomly fell in love with her, just like the Doctor. This means that if you have watched New Who and fail to realise it is actually all about Polly you are both Wrong and Interrogating The Text From The Wrong Perspective. But I can understand that you might have mistaken the Polly!symbolism for Romana!symbolism, because the Doctor did love her best.

And, incidentally, I can't be arsed doing tags on dwicons today. Because I read post after post about how Martha was stealing Rose's moments in reviews of season three, or some guff like that, and now there are icons that have photoshopped Rose into Martha's place in the promo shots. Oh the irony. It would burn if I didn't find it so insanely tiresome.

Also, there was character-bashing this week. That was unamusing. There's a reason I refuse on principle to put No Character Bashing in the rules. And it's because it falls into the same category as 'no trolling' and 'no flaming' and 'no slagging off The Time Monster,' in that they're bloody stupid things to do that are obviously going to piss any half-sensible person off.

And for god's sake don't ask me why I'm not okay with character-bashing.

Happily, I am v glad that Rusty has seen fit to match my OTP slash pairing with an easily shippable het-pairing. Well done Rusty. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, there are pictures on the BBC Doctor Who site that explain, yes.

Polly is quite brilliant. Y'know how (possibly you don't, but it's true) Ian and Babs leave the TARDIS and you're all "Oh, god, how will Who ever be good again?" and you sort of like Steven and Vicki and it's nice that they tease each other and The Time Meddler is obviously great and then you have Sara Kingdom for a few months and that keeps you watching before Dodo shows up and you're convinced it's finally really the end? Well, then Polly arrives, and you suddenly realise, even before The Trought appears, that, yes, everything is going to be okay.

It was Oh_she_knows which *looked* like a good Comm. I had a very nice and thoughtful email from the mod (who I really like and is on my flist), who was only doing her job, but the fact I said I liked both and belonged to shipper comms for both didn't go down well with some members.

This actually explains Romana. She starts out as a brunette, which reminds the Doctor of Barbara so he treats her as an intelligent, capable woman. Then she regenerates into a cute blonde, who reminds him of Polly and they have Mad Plans together that Generally Work.

What gets me is that people are requesting these photoshops, which I suppose considering who'd use them, shouldn't surprise me in the least.

I'm sick of character bashing myself. And I'm sick of seeing a certain character being talked about more than characters currently appearing on the series.

In isolation, I wouldn't care about the photoshops. It's the combo of overt!bashing, the fact it's an erasure of one character to replace another (unlike, say Ten/Romana icons what are matching screencaps together) having a not-too-subtle symbolism and all the stealing Rose moments nonsense in some sort of orchestral symphony of tiresomeness.

And, yeah, I could not read reviews if I was really desperate to avoid that stuff, but the other two things are people doing annoying things in my bleedin comm. OH I AM SO HORRIBLY PRECIOUS ABOUT IT. I don't care. It's all beautifully tagged.

Ah, there's been a couple of awesome Master!pr0n fics and all they did was make me want SO MUCH MORE. So, yah, apparently it is. Bad form, fandom.

I think it means that anything romantic, or even heartfelt, and possibly even passably friendly must always happen between the Doctor and Rose, and any other woman who's getting that is a skankho who is grabbing for herself what should be kept sacred to Rose.
