Am rewatching A2A for vidding purposes and it generally being a bit great and it is Even Better the second time round. Possibly because I now know who everyone is and can remember all their names. But also:

  • Omg, Shaz/Chris is so cute! It's not that I didn't notice it was before, but can now appreciate their earlier moments so much more as I didn't really know the characters on first watch and now they are just adorable.

  • Shaz generally. And her relationship with Alex. And Shaz saying she'd pay for Alex if Alex was a prostitute. And hiding Gene's keys for Alex so Alex could nick his car. And her saying "fab" when Alex tells her she's the future. OH MORE SCENES FOR THEM NEXT YEAR PLEASE.

  • Why is Gene cast rather explicitly as Jesus in episode seven? The camera focusses in on the 'Manc Lion' sign on his office at the very beginning. Then Alex tells Shaz about her father reading her The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and then Caroline calls Gene the lion who's been shaved. And it's just, dude, have they been doing this elsewhere and it needed something liken a hammer on the head for me to pick it up? (I suppose if Gene is Jesus/God then that's a reason for his character softening somewhat from LOM to A2A if LOM's OT and A2A's NT, heh.)

  • And maybe that ties in with Alex calling Gene on never letting his team have any responsibility? So she's arguing free will vs predestination with God? And in the first episode everyone's very Stick With Gene, that's where you want to be, wander away like Sam and you'll get yourself killed... in which case it would be arguing a pro-theist stance. And Gene does talk about his kingdom a bit. Um... well, it's convincing to me in episode seven, anyway. I do wonder what the writer was thinking when he wrote it.

  • Alex, I love. I love how she reacts to her Possible Impending Death with logic and reason and then sometimes loses it and then pulls herself together and fights on.

  • Gene. Because he is Gene and he is great and sometimes he looks at Alex and it is quite perfectly squeeful.

  • The car. Which I believe is called a Quattro. I have hardly ever liked a car before - SPN was the first time I got anywhere near caring - and this one is great and car chases! I hate car chases, I do, but I love the A2A ones quite madly. And the reversing of the car and the eyebrow quirks and Gene demanding that Alex make his car smell nice again. OH LOVELY TELLY.

Luckily I have some LOM still to watch to ease the HORRORS of having to wait a whole year for more.

I really want to vid Shaz and Chris despite the fact they have like a minute of screen time together the whole series.

I think Gene is controlling Alex's world, which I'm not sure if is because it's really his world (I've read some interesting theories supporting this) or he represents something else (like God or an Angel helping her move on)

The Quattro is fantastic, it's kind of impractical for police work what with the two doors and all, but really awesome despite this minor failing.

It is Read and Looks Cool. My car-fu is so terrible I did not even notice the thing lacked back doors, ahem.

I like everything in this post. Especially the bit about possible video? Yes.

I'm rewatching LoM S2 right now, mostly because I can't remember a thing about what happen... this is what happens when you power-watch a series within week. And then I'm going to rewatch A2A, knowing now what I didn't know then. It shall be fab.

And Shaz is adorable. Especially when she and Chris are dancing at that club. I *almost* called it an 80s club... but that would have been silly.

The club! Oh, Shaz looks awesome, yes. And I have to finiish s2, I was trying to get through LOM before A2A started, as the preview looked so much fun, then got distracted by A2A as, whilst no longer disliking Life on Mars, it just wasn't the same level of yay.

Yes, that. *loves*

Vidding the show is hella difficult because there are too many splendid Gene/Alex bits for me to choose from. Gyah.

I intended to vid Gene/Alex but then it turned into Gene and Alex and THE CAR.

They make faces and she dumps trash in his car and tries to steal his keys and pulls the break and they shout at each other and it's true love, dammit. They could drive around shouting the entire episode and I'd be content.

I didn't pick up on the Jesus bits--never was my strong point unless they beat me over the head with it a la New Who--but Gene is awfully more heroic in A2A than he is in LoM. In the first and the last episodes, if I remember aright, all the stirring speeches with the equally stirring musical chords.

Oh, oh, and Shaz is wonderful. I think I could totally ship Shaz/Alex for the prostitute line alone (isn't that horrible?), except that Shaz/Chris is probably much more OTP. Maybe they just invite Alex round occasionally for sex.

That speech in the last episode is the one thing I really didn't link in the whole series, cause, dammit, Scarman did great stuff. I try to take it in the context of This Is Not The Real World so anything attacking Gene is Not A Good Thing, but, oh, I dinnae think they should be dissin' the dude who handled the enquiry after the Brixton Riots and managed to calm all the sides down, advocated the European Bill of Human Rights being incorporated in Europe actually insisted, and was basically a liberal and did good stuff. (He made some unpleasant decisions, but mostly he's a dude I very much admire.)
