Oh, it is Quite Appalling how completely in love with this show I am, and Quite Shocking how it manages to be more and more Insanely Fun each week. NEXT WEEK THERE IS SOME MANNER OF SWORDFIGHTING. But this week, after Jane marries Collins, Bingley gets all a bit REG!Nine depressed alcoholic, Darcy falls in love with Amanda and then can't possibly marry her because she accidently admitted that she's dun sex and Alex Kingston makes THE MOST YAYFUL FACE EVA. For Darcy invites Amanda to Pemberley and Mrs Bennett is in the room and claims to hear only "would you like to go to Pemberley?" and her head pops round one of the chairs with a Mad Grin Of Glee and it is SHINY AND GOOD.

I am also Unexpectedly In love With Darcy. And with the fact that the text goes a bit meta ("How come we never get to go anywhere or do anything?" ask Mary & Kitty) and Amanda has a 'post-modern moment' as she requests Darcy strip to his shirt and get soaked in the lake and he does and it is Quite Great and OH THIS DARCY IS V SHINY. He also gets lovely scenes with Bingley. And by lovely I mean slashy and also socked inna face but they are all filled with Angsty Angst as their friendship falls a bit apart.

Greatest of all, however, is the revelation of Miss Bingley's sexuality when she tries to seduce Amanda. Unexpected!Georgian!lesbianism FTW.

ETA: Madly forgot Lindsay Duncan, who I know is A Proper Actress, but I only know her from Rome, alas, where she is Servilia and here she's Lady Catherine and she's BRILLIANT and I actually quite liked Lady Catheirne which was strange and awesome and well done there.

So, I should get hold of and watch it, I suppose. It does sound interesting. I think I'll be playing catch-up for years, since I still have this huge batch of DVDs and tapes to watch, to say nothing of listening to Big Finish, but what's one more thing to add to the queue? Besides, Alex Kingston is in it!

If you like the book and/or Davies miniseries, it is terribly good fun, yes.

I was sitting here trying really hard to turn it off and go and do the much more important other things I urgently have to do, and I just couldn't. I LOVE IT TO PIECES, I DO. Tits to the highbrow boring types who are all 'ew, ITV' (which amuses me no end, because there seem to be more of them than the 'ew, Jane Austen crackfic' naysayers somehow). It's proper clever postmodern incredibly-affectionate-towards-the-canon fun. Want dvd, pls.

The writer is clearly MADLY IN LOVE WITH AUSTEN AND DAVIES and OH IT IS LIKE A FANNISH LOVE LETTER REALLY. (Also if something dreadful does not happen, it's going to have the most attractive version of Darcy, which is disturbing and wonderful, yes.)

It's definitely the most fannish thing I've ever seen on telly. It's like the really cheerful end of fandom, where people are entirely squeeful, and creative in their squee as the best way to express it. And I love that as much of the affection in it is for the BBC adaptation as much as for the book, because that's actually really fascinating and adds a whole nother layer to the meta-ness.

I was all 'boo, this Darcy is wonky and quite minging' in the first episode, and now I love him entirely, which is about the most appropriate thing possible. He did look quite fetching when standing in that pond. And then there was the declaration of love bit, and I went all funny. And him reading the book, which was GENIUS.

When she chucked the book out of the window I, ah, squeaked slightly and was all excited for Who Would Be Discovering It.

Oh no! Don't say that!

With all the versions of Pride & Prejudice I've seen, I've never actually seen the mini-series.

I haven't seen this week's yet (what with waiting for the torrent, er), so I covered my eyes for 'spoilers!' (I prefer the fun and crack to be firsthanded) but I'm bouncing around in a rather excited fashion and thus come bearing a link for a picspam (http://sundayave.livejournal.com/373951.html) of sorts that I did the other day, yes. *g*

I LOVE IT MORE THAN ANYTHING. I'm convinced Wickham is in love with Darcy and I love Caroline's lesbian wiles and I'm so sad we're not seeing Lizzie's adventures with Tish Jones but that's what [livejournal.com profile] yuletide's for.

Lost in Austen is awesome, I gnerally can't stand period drama, but when they screw around with it like this it's brilliant!

The scene with Miss Bingley was hillarious, and it was even more soIf you've seen Hex? becuase the girl who plays amanda is basically a lesbian ghost who constantly comes onto her best friend who is played by Miss Bingley, so that amused me somewhat :)

............Jane marries Collins? You just broke my heart.

Ooh, so your theory on Darcy intentionally being a slow burn to interesting and lovable turned out to be true! And, yes, Darcy/Bingley is glorious in all forms and aspects.

OMG I JUST SAW IT. OMG it was like the little wee Hex femmeslash fangirl in me GOT PRIZES MANY YEARS AFTER THE FACT OMG.

Darcy is hilariously glowry and stiff and I was not expecting at all what happened to have happened with the book omg.

This series is quite possibly the best thing ever. I love Jemima Rooper LIKE PIE.

Oh noooooooooooo

Only four episodes? Only four? THAT MEANS ONLY ONE TO GO.

D: I really wish I'd discovered that before cozily anticipating another three episodes to make it a round six. Why six? I don't know. It just seems more ... British.

(Oh, Blackadder, that's it.)

But ... this show is amazing. It's the first thing I've watched in yonks that I've actually been all squeeish and excited to see what happens next (Mr Bennet actually gets a duel? Eep!). It is very nice to know that the telly can still provide good times, especially when I no longer own one.
