So with all due Fear and Terror, I clicked on the link to the new Doctor Who logo and my first reaction was Not Of Hate, thus Much Relieved, yes. My second was "heh, that is a bit like the One True Monochrome logo, ain't it?" Obv that is a doubleplusgood point.

But, oh, it's a bit lolarious that they are still using lens flare like it's 1999. LENS FLARE IS NEITHER BIG NOR CLEVER. At least it is a bit hidden this time round.

Also the TARDIS DW amuses me ridiculously and thus yay. Visual puns FTW.

To conclude, it looks a bit like it could be the T-1000 in disguise. Can we pls be having season five now, yes?

(ETA: I dunno if you can see it outside the UK but: DEATH BY LENS FLARE.)

And there are like new pikshurs of Amy that are trying very hard to make me question my sexuality. Naturally, I am appalled. Here they are. The new Doctor dude is there too.

I blame JJ Abrams for the resurgence of lens flares.

Glad I am not the only one who thinks the new logo is Rather Good, though.

I'd like the lens flares a little better if they were actually well executed. ;_; C'mon, BBC!

Okay, it's going to feel dated in a few years but whatevs. I kind of like it.

P.S. Tell me Amy is dressed up for Halloween and British cops don't actually dress like that.

Darn. If they did, I'd be over there people-watching in a heartbeat ;)

Re: New logo. I like the lens flare, because it's slightly dated. DW has always been an inch behind the tech curve, in a good way!

It looks kinda like the plot goes:
Doctor: "OK, we need you to dress up as a police woman!"
Amy: "Where are we going to get a British police woman uniform at this time of night?"
Doctor: "Look, there's a costume shop that's open! And they have a police woman's uniform!"
Amy: "... that's a fetish shop."
Doctor: "They also sell small icons for worship by primitive tribes? Seems like an odd mix. I thought they were just dildos."

I so so want this to be the plot.

(Except TARDIS costume room...sigh. Maybe it's a policewoman's uniform from the 51st century.)

So I was in the Brit Track costuming panel at Dragon*Con last month and there was a trio there in Life on Mars costumes, and "Annie Cartwright" announced that in fact she'd gotten the policewoman's hat from a UK site selling stripper gear, because it was apparently a popular costume theme...

I like the text part of the logo, but the combination of it and the TARDIS-shaped DW looks too complicated. Unless they're only going to use one bit at a time usually.

Why is she wearing the top half of a police uniform with a skirt that short?

i loves the TARDIS-ey bit the best - it appeals to my inner child.

The new set pics have finally got my blokey into Who, yay. He rolled his eyes when I told him to come and have a look and when he did, he was all "redhead lady with miles and miles of legs; when does it start?"

Yes. I am trying to ignore the inner child who thinks lens flare makes everything COOL and FUTURE-Y though. That one makes me ashamed.

The lens flare is really Not Good, but I'm kind of in love with the TARDIS DW. Also, the ludicrously wide W in the logotype is bugging the crap out of me, but I will forgive that for the awesome design of the R.

On the whole, I don't think this logo is going to age well, but it's about 9000% less awful than it could have been, and feels all shiny and futuristic. Not bad at all, really.

Police vest + miniskirt? She looks hot, but also kind of incongruous, yes?

Also, after seeing Matt Smith in Ten's suit, I'm thinking they created his Eleven costume to make him look less hot.

Eh, I'm not a big fan, but I'm not gonna stop watching because of a logo like a couple of people on my flist! *rolls eyes* It's mostly the TARDIS DW and the lens flares that irk me. That's like a Graphic Design 101 lesson right there! The text and design by itself on the actual logo are perfectly fine.

Oh, I have no clue if it'd appear onscreen! My personal hope is that the two are their own separate thing and they're only debuting them together. THEN I'd be onboard.

Well, now that I could live with! Come to think of it, the DWTARDIS would look good on the side of a line of shiny new paperbacks. Then again, so would my name... :D

...people would stop watching because of the logo, of all things?

I mean, maybe if they were disgruntled at the existence of Eleven and Amy full stop, and were looking for an excuse to quit anyway, I could get that, but...you can fast-forward or squint through the opening credits, folks, they're not that long.

Is it just me or does the logo seem to be aimed at a younger market? The look/feel reminded me more of Sarah Jane Adventures than it did Doctor Who.

... as for the flare at least there is a semblence of rational for it (stars, space, and all that ;o) ) in Doctor Who.

/defence of the flare :o)

I think I'm coming round on the logo, but while I like the text I can't imagine the TARDIS textart actually appearing in an opening credits sequence. It looks more like a branding icon. A nifty branding icon, but still.

The fact that we are at last getting another miniskirted companion makes me CHEER GREATLY. And I think I kind of love Eleven a little bit already; he reminds me of a younger, shorter Four what with his faces and his poses and things. Also I find Karen Gillan far hotter than I did when they first released pictures of her in that flannel thing. Her costume suits her well. :)

The new logo is very monochrome. Except that...that THING on the side, which is sorta corny beyond humor and hideous. =(

I pray they don't overdo the lens flare. I do so like being able to look at the screen. *sidelong glare at the first quarter of Star Trek*

Is Amy a cop or a stripper? She looks nice. Makes me want my black mini back out of storage. And apparently Ten died in the brown suit. Eleven is working it, too.
