OH WHITE COLLAR NO! I've been catching up as I found myself with nought on the telly and a Sunday afternoon and remembered the awesome pilot what I saw at [livejournal.com profile] taraljc's last month and it's wonderful and I love it but they just went and mentioned the Curse of King Tut and OH THE PAIN. First, yes, the people who opened the tomb died...mostly of old age at least a decade later. (IIRC, one of them went and cut a mosquito bite on his face a couple of days after they went in and it got infected and he died, which is like the least impressive curse ever, frankly.) And secondly, there's no curse written in the tomb of King Tutankhamun.

But these two educated, intelligent gents what are the stars of the show are saying "two dozen people who entered the tomb ended up dead! Omg!" Yes. But only because over ninety years have passed since the opening and they were not magic people.

Right, I shall stop being annoyed about that and concentrate on the fact that Wendy Watson is on their team again this episode. Hurrah!

But the fact that entering the tomb did not MAKE THEM IMMORTAL is, in a way, KIND OF A CURSE.

That's EVEN LESS IMPRESSIVE than the INFECTING A SHAVING CUT CURSE!

This is an interesting article about 'the curse'. I noted the one fact that would make it unhealthy to open a tomb was the presence of dangerous mold spores. So you could get really sick & possibly die if you opened *ANY* ancient Egyptian tomb without proper protective gear. But that doesn't seem to have happened with Tut's tomb. It makes a good story, though.

Indeedy. I've read a wee bit about that before. I just get terribly narked when that 'curse' gets referred to with all the inaccuracy of a very inaccurate thing.

'Dear Enemy. I curse you and hope that something slightly unpleasant will happen to you, like an onion falling on your head.'

Being born has a 100% mortality rate.

Oh and you know how they always bleat on about soft drugs are a bad thing because they lead on to hard drugs. Well all hard drug users started on milk, so shouldn't access to that be controlled as well?

I had this reaction to an article in the Times on Sherlick Holmes's sartorialism.

Priorities, we has 'em.

Perhaps it's one of those 'Slow, sustained release curses' like you get with vitamins and drugs these days? "Warning: Only take curse after meals. Curse may cause drowsiness or death. Do not drive while using this curse."
