  • Omg, I love Doctor Who. I watched Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone (at some point I'm going to be able to write the title without typing 'bone', yarg) back-to-back and it really is a bit magical. I think it is my favourite of New Who? It does have the Omg!Shiny&New factor but also it is amazings. Oh noes, Sound of Drums! You have been shafted down the rankings In My Head. How will you cope ever? I am v sorry but you had three years at the top, which is probably an excellent innings.

  • Obv it is not as good as Time Monster, however. Or Nimons. Or monochrome.

  • So The Trought is the best of them all, clearly. And my favourite, but I am a bit worried that Eleventy is not just My New Skool Doctor but also is trying to make me rank non-Trought Doctors, which I don't do, just so he can thieve second place.

  • Quite want Eleventy and Pond in a Hartnell story just so they can do sod all for twenty minutes. I think that when you can cheerfully watch your dudes faff around for twenty-five minutes trying to find The Plot then that is when they are truly awesome. By this logic, Hartnell Babs is king, yay.

  • Matt Smith is adorkable. At the link he has Ridiculous Standy-Up Hair and is chatting to kids what won a thing on Blue Peter. I am NOT IN THE LEAST bit bitter that I missed out on all such Exciting Competitions since Doctor Who was OFF THE AIR throughout the entire time I was in the Blue Peter age group. Boooooo.

  • LOVELY VID. Eunice's latest DW video review is my favourite so far. It is all beautifully crafted and has pleasing cuts and joyful joyfullness, yes.

  • This has nothing to do with Doctor Who, but I've been reading a Ridiculous Amount of Dragon Age fic. I found Teagan fic that wasn't awful and that was v pleasing because I've an absurd love for him based mostly on the fact that I think he looks a bit like Peter Jeffrey.

  • Labour sent me one of those wee Pretend Handwritten letters. It addressed me as 'Ms' and went on a bit about Tactical Voting so I felt a smidgen guilty and went and looked up my MP's voting record, just incase he was like an amazing dude or something and I'd missed it. The only good thing I found was that he's not a homophobic git. Which is nice, but when you're also a pro-Iraq War, anti-Iraq inquiry, pro-spend bijillions replacing Trident, pro-top up fees and not very enthused about reforming the upper chamber as well as being a total yes man, I'll vote for a dude who's not a homophobic git and hasn't got a track record of Being A Bit Rubbish.

  • All that fandom wank about Diana Gabaldon's anti-fanfic rant reminded me that I owned Outlander. And obv I had to give it a shot since, y'know, lolsome wank. So far the Scottish characters say "ye" a lot. And "doesna." And "sassenach." I don't mind the last one since that's an actual word and a great word at that. Sassenach!

  • The Tudors is back on the telly. (I give fair warning, I am about to spoiler you for history here.) I was a bit worried that with both Anne and Cromwell dead I was going to be a bit bored, for they were my favourites. But no! Sarah Bolger has been promoted to the title sequence, and she's playing Mary Tuder and she is fantastic. It makes me ridic annoyed this is the last season cause I would've loved to see her starring as the young, less Burn-More-Protestants, queen. I find the beginning of Mary's reign and, indeed, how she raised an army and secured her throne, fascinating stuff and, unlike Henry's reign, there's a distinct lack of televisual drama about it.

Trought is made of Total Win but I too have noticed that Eleventy has been creeping up there. I think because he is very like Trought and if they met, they would bond INSTANTLY and sit together on the couch and talk loudly about how none of the other Doctors were quite as good as them. And it would be beautiful.

Bah, Labour didn't send ME any handwritten letters. I suspect they don't care about my vote. Pah, I say.

I always vaguely meant to read Outlander, mostly because I always knew one of the characters was based on Jamie and thus, it couldn't suck TOO much. Am now no longer sure. I wonder if the library carries it?

I am totally with people on Troughton being The Doctor of All Doctors :) But I am fast learning to love the Eleventh Doctor as much as the Fourth...

And "they would bond INSTANTLY and sit together on the couch and talk loudly about how none of the other Doctors were quite as good as them"... that is so perfectly perfect.

The Tories sent me "A contract between the Conservative Party and [My Name]". I always wondered what a contract with the devil would look like. Now I know. It has David Cameron's signature on the bottom in THE BLOOD OF INNOCENT POOR PEOPLE purple.

You'll have to excuse me now. I need to get some sleep so I can vote tactically against the Tories bright and early tomorrow.

I am SO moving to a marginal for the next one, we've had hardly anything interesting in the post and no one has knocked on the door. I was going to tell them I would gladly vote for whoever fixed my tumble dryer.

Guess what the contract says I can do to the Tories if they FAIL to keep the enclosed vaguely-worded promises? Yes, David Cameron tells me that I can hold the Tories to account: "If we don't deliver our side of the bargain, vote us out in five years time." Gee, thanks for the special new power to hold politicians accountable there Dave....

I would gladly vote for whoever fixed my tumble dryer.

Not voting Green then? ;-P

I have always been in Mary's camp - the first Tudor fiction I can remember reading was Mary, Bloody Mary, and did a pretty good job at showing how completely screwed up her life was, and why she turned out the way she did. It really is too bad that they're ending the Tudors this season: I keep fantasizing about a Jane Grey/Mary/young Queen Elizabeth series.

Omg yessssssss. They invite yearnings for aimlessness like nobody.

Eleven's already like...halfway up my list of Doctors, damn him. Or at least as halfway up an odd-numbered list as you can be.

I love Eleventy so much. He is great. Too soon to tell where he ranks compared to them others, but I like him so much better than Ten it doesn't even matter.

"Flesh and Stone" was the best so far and made me jump up and down in an undignified manner.

re The Tudors - I too would love to see them go past Henry. Their young Elizabeth this season (I don't know if you've seen her much yet?) is very good> Mary is fantabulous.

I have to divorce myself from my history fetish watching this show. I consider it historical AU/porn :D

Not a UKian, but I thought this piece (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/may/04/why-i-hate-tories-david-cameron) summed it up quite well. I'd vote SNP or SSP, due to fail at tactical voting.

In NZ it's actually Labour who launched the Thatcherite reforms, so I sorta stare blankly at anyone who calls them the lesser evil.

Indeedy. The SSP scare me though. Sheridan's public speaking reminds me way too much of, um, Mosley. Which makes me run away in terrors.

Admittedly I know not much at all about the SSP specifically, just going with them on principle. Also Wikipedia says they allow conflicting tendencies to announce themselves within the party, which is always good so long as they don't start splitting all over the place.

Not very much? It is a very, um, interesting view of Scotland though. Like in Terror of the Zygons, but with more blood sacrifices to our pagan gods.

He is rather brilliant isn't he? I'm so pleased. I mean I didn't think I wouldn't like him, I merely didn't think that he'd be perfect and I'd love him.

I think that when you can cheerfully watch your dudes faff around for twenty-five minutes trying to find The Plot then that is when they are truly awesome.
Amy and Eleven could so do it. Yep. They would snark as they explored quarries (I mean, I know that's what they do now, but for the full twenty-five minutes not the total of two they're allowed not to have plot).

Skimming your entry because it's the end of the day and I'm in a hurry and will most likely properly read it next week -- but this season of The Tudors is noteworthy for bringing back Anne of Cleves to continue to be Better Than Them All.

ETA: Okay, I read it after all since I got my other tabs closed. I have nothing of note to contribute to your political discussion, but can add that the trailer for this season showed Henry falling down dead, so we can wonder how late in the season that happens and whether it'll least show us wee!Edward dying and Mary taking over.
