So not very long ago I was whinging about the Lack of Lovely Historical Telly and I've only just discovered that, in fact, I need not have worried! A new series about the Borgias is going to be out next year! And just incase its mere existence was not enough to bring me Great Joy, Derek Jacobi's going to be in it! (Also, Jeremy Irons and Montserrat Lombard, hurrah!) Am RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED.

Ooh. Excited too! (Though always with a qualm of Are They Going To Get Their History Right.) Renaissance intrigues + character actors = win, though.

I'm okay with them being a bit fudgey with Historical Accuracies, and there's a lot of stuff about the Borgias that's pretty uncertain anyway. I suspect they'll probably skip Lucretia being 13 at her first marriage though.

HOORAY AND BIG OL' HAPPYDANCE!

I've read bios. The Borgias are their own big ol' soap opera. Although Lucrezia almost certainly wasn't a murderer, and spent most of her life, if you deduct one possible illegitimate child, in blatant respectability.

Aye, all of the scandolous stuff about her doesn't seem to have much of ye olde historical evidence to support it. Suspect they'll ignore this cause a hollow ring for poison is pretty cool.

Mostly I hope the series runs long enough for Caterina Sforza to show up. I LOVE HER AS PIE.

I suspect that it will be as historically accurate as the Tudors.

Though with more orgies. Not that the BBC version was entirely reliable on that issue *g*.

Yeah, but I loved The Tudors, so I'm pretty okay with that. It did manage rather marvelously not to make any of the queens into Irritating Caricatures.

I totally read this as "Bourgeois telly series". And then I was trying to work out which of the shows I watch most qualified for that description. *g*

Derek Jacobi, Jeremy Irons, and actors from Bonekickers and Demons! This should be magnificent.

I'm shocked no one mentioned this to you on your historical TV post -- they kept showing the trailers as lead-ins to The Pillars of the Earth, correctly judging us to be the right target audience.
