Here is a lovely picture of Eleventy and The Latest One from the Beeb:

p00tm1qn

THERE ARE NO PONDS IN IT. This is just like that time Big Finish wrote out Erimem and I never listened to another Fifth Doctor audio ever again.* I don't like this Not Wanting Companions To Leave thing. IT MAKES ME SAD. Even if I'm looking forward to the next one. SADNESSES.

Also, no longer Scottish. That's the worst thing really.

Hurrah!

I try to remind myself that they've had an exceptionally long run, but I LOVED THEM. They should only change the things I don't love. That's how telly should run.

They should only change the things I don't love.

But if that happened, Ian and Barbara would never have left.

.

Thinking about it, I can't see a problem with that scenario...

I think they would have run into a small snag when Jacqueline Hill had to get uppity and die on everyone like that back in 1993...

So he is! Dude, I didn't even notice. That is quite good. Oh, now I am going to be writing complaints if he isn't running around in just the shirt and waistocat at some point in the series. Cause that would make me happy, shallowly.

His main flaw in that department, I find, is an insufficient number of character-building lines in his face.

There is a waistcoat. This makes up for many, many things.

(Yes I am SHALLOW. But - waistcoat. It reduces me to incoherency.)

Besides if I try to think about the Ponds leaving I get VERY VERY SAD, so I focus on the waistcoat, because it is A Good Thing.

He wears a waistcoat now. Waistcoats are cool. :-)

I find Jenna Louise Coleman aesthetically appealling. Whether she'll be any good or not is another matter.

Also? Steven Moffat is still Scottish. So that's okay.

I feel the same way--I had thought Ponds left in the one before Stormageddon: Dark Lord of All, but then they came back for the finale, and I went, "Oh, okay, I guess that works, nice to have them for the big episode at the end, ooh Amy is a captain of things now is she?" but then I thought they were gone for real then. But now they are coming back, for more episodes? I am confused! Go or don't go, none of this dithering, Ponds! Even though I like them.

Meanwhile, it's River whom I want more of, and am assuming I won't get. Ah, well.

As long as the Ponds' leaving is only "heartbreaking" (Moffat's choice of words, if I recall) in the sense that Sarah Jane's was... We've had enough of "Being the Doctor's Companion will end in tragedy" meme, thank you very much... (by which I mean "no thanks").

How about homemade from a little recipe that her mother taught her—something called Nitro Nine?

(Okay, I admit that I like this scenario mostly because it would be a sneaky way to get Ace on the screen and I am in favor of that. And then she could have a spin-off show where she and some plucky teenagers fight alien invaders with explosives and a baseball bat.)

I will miss the Ponds so very, very much. But it's the Whoniverse, so I shall shelve my heartbreak and learn to love another companion or at least, god willing, like her. Haven't met one yet that I truly disliked, but I really like to love them.

So that I can get my heart broken again when the next one leaves. It's the only way I'll ever be like the Doctor, I suppose.

Also, really hoping she's not as generic as she looks, and seconding the waistcoat approval.

For various reasons I was always ready to say bye to previous New Who companions, and classic was fait accompli by the time I saw it, so that made it all okay. But loving the companion and their relationship with the Doctor and still being delighted every time I see their face? NEW AND TRICKY THING.

I have, very occasionally, imagined a scene - completely impossible in any Doyleist fashion, but endlessly amusing in Watsonian vision, given, you know, time travel - a meet-up of Every. Single. Companion (including those who didn't travel in the TARDIS, but who were The Brig) from television episodes, Big Finish, New Adventures, what-have-you ... all waiting in some unimaginably large banquet hall in the TARDIS's depths - and the Doctor rounding the corner and seeing them. It amuses me. But then again, I'm easily amused.

How...how can there be Eleventy without Amy or River...how...I do not understand...

This is my first instinctive reaction when looking at that picture, even though the other part of my brain says, "Ooh, a new companion! Can't wait to meet her!" and "Awh, she's cute and looks like she's having fun." And, you know, I wasn't passionately devoted to Amy & Rory, or at least I didn't think I was. But I kind of started watching Doctor Who with The Eleventh Hour, and...how is there Eleventy without Amy? Suddenly I understand why all the drama over Rose leaving, back in the day.

However, am eager to meet new girl! Complex feeeelings. Heh.

Somehow there was Four without Romana and Seven without Ace and One without Babs and these are STRANGE AND CONFUSING THINGS but they happened.

I hope to ridic they manage to bring River back again though.

Suddenly I understand why all the drama over Rose leaving, back in the day.

Not a fun time in fandom, to be sure.

Does vest = waistcoat? It is a marvellous thing though, yes.

From: [identity profile] capriuni.livejournal.com
Yes. In America, we call waistcoats "vests." Absolute nonsense, really, as they are garments which act like a coat, but cover your waist and very little else.

But, being a bunch of Colonials turned Rebels, we have to change some bits of language with the Mother country, or else how else could anyone tell us apart. That's why we call "zed" "zee," instead. <-Trufax.

Oh, and looking at that new costume, the more I realize why it looks so familiar: it's almost exactly how my favorite English professor dressed, when I was a freshmen in college. If only Eleven had thinning white hair that flew out in all directions, it would be perfect.

In short: I approve.

And even though I haven't actually be properly fannish about Who in a while, I'm now kind of sad at the thought of the Ponds leaving. Do we know anything about the new one yet? She'll be from 21st-century London, I assume...
