OMG DOCTOR WHO OMG OMG OMG. I spent that whole episode trying my best not to squee, which I haven't done for a while because I have dignity, dammit, but basically there was about a thing a minute where I wanted to wave my hands and go "OMGOMG LOVE."
So, yeah, I liked it.
So, yeah, I liked it.
- I don't know what to talk about first. SO MUCH LOVE. Okay: THE DOCTOR KISSED RORY. What a great wee moment that was. He hasn't kissed a single dude since the first season and that's the first kiss with a guy he initiated and just OH. It was completely unneccessary and wonderful.
- Amy. AMAZING. She was full-on Doctor-ish in that way long-term companions can be with her casual leadership of her team, knowing what to do on entering a room with a computer and her use of future tech and "I won't have companions who are flirting". And she got to shoot dinosaurs. Which would be horrid, except they were just knocking them unconscious so I could enjoy the cool futuristic gun use guilt-free! Hurrah! And "yes, yes I am a queen".
- Matt Smith was a delight AS EVER, but there were some particularly Troughton-esque moments in the early half of the episode that had me all aflail with delight.
- TEAM. How much do I love teams? QUITE A LOT. And the Doctor deliberately went and got himself one and OH. You'd think I could only be disappointed after AGMGtW and its awesome teamness, but no! A totally different kind of team that hit my buttons in totally different, but excellent ways.
- NEFERTITI. Right, so, Erimem is one of my favourite companions and the very best of Big Finish companions so in my head this was pretty much a love letter to how amazing she is. AND SHE IS. I love that she's TOTALLY A COMPANION. And want a wee spin-off series. And she is just MAGNIFICENT and how disappoint am I going to be if we never get her back? I give her the Vastra & Jenny sticker for season 7, yes.
- And Riddell! I suppose I should admit that I adore Rubert Graves and when terribly attractive men are playing arrogant gits on the telly I, um, kind of like it. So that was very nice viewing. And, again, guilt-free since neither Nefertiti or Amy let it go even a little. And I was pretty much shipping him and Nefertiti, even though yes, she's way too good for him. BUT THEY ARE BOTH SO PRETTY. Oh, and then he was in his shirt-sleeves for a bit. That was lovely. He can come back too. But only with Nefertiti.
- INDIAN SPACE AGENCY DEFENDING THE EARTH. That was pretty keen, and definitely thumbs-up for that choice. Believable, and much more interesting than the 'future world space agency' stuff that's done so often.
- I may have teared up just slightly at Mr Weasley having a cup of tea and watching the Earth below.
- And I still love the popping in and out of the Ponds lives thing. It makes them feel so much more a part of the Doctor's life that they're all comfortable with that happening, in a sort of Brig-esque way. And it will, I hope, make it easier when they finally leave cause they've been LEAVING FOR AGES. And I don't want them to, but I know it's the best decision story and character-wise, BUT I REALLY LOVE THEM OKAY.
- ANKYLOSAURUSES. They're my favourites.
- It took me a very long time before I realised the robots were Mitchell & Webb.
- Oh, and just the whole story was wonderful. A nicely realised future that tied into the past Silurian mythology. It felt... just really good. A really good, fun story that managed to delight me in a silly number of ways.
- Next week, John Crichton!

Date: 2012-09-08 09:28 pm (UTC)I was expecting a sort of 'clever girl' moment with Riddell fighting the raptors, but that's just me being a big nerd.

His gestures and body language seem to me to draw so much from Troughton, which is perfectly fine, as far as I'm concerned.

Date: 2012-09-08 11:41 pm (UTC)I feel like Nu Who has kind of sucked lately and this episode reminded me of why I love it.
Also dinosaurs. There should be dinosaurs in everything.

Date: 2012-09-09 12:03 am (UTC)There was a bit early on, before the separation of the teams, where the Doctor and Rory and his dad were all peering and leaning in just the same way that made them look like a synchronised group of something or other, I don't even know what, apart from that it made me start thinking of those three as a group already even before they got zapped off together and separated. I could cope with having some sort of postcard of those three leaning all together like that.

Date: 2012-09-11 08:35 am (UTC)This is basically my reaction to the entire episode! And I love it! I was Disappoint about great swathes of last episode, but this one was pure solid silly shenanigans, with just enough tension and a fabulous Indian Space Team (how much do I love them? ever so much! I love that they are the Doctor's friends and yet still willing to blow up the ship to save Earth) and dinosaurs! and Silurians! and a floor under the beach! And Arthur Weasley! And I friggin' love the robots, though I've no idea who Mitchell & Webb are.
All in all, I spent the whole time giggling. It was fun, which Dr. Who should be more often.
