An exciting email about paying too much for my website! Hurrah says I! We have reduced our registration fees and owe you money says email! Hurrah says I!
Here is your six cents, says email!
Boo. I was all excited for, like, three seconds.
Anyways, here is an Exciting Meme because I have not done a meme for forever.
Comment and I will give you 3 interests on your list, and 3 icons, for you to explain. Then you must post the answers in your own journal and allow others to comment.
Here is what
nostalgia_lj gave self:
highway 61 - my favourite Dylan album. I am a Dylan!cliche, sadly.
wandering aimlessly - from when I lived in Edinburgh. I have an appalling sense of direction and that was my way of finding stuff. IT DOESN'T WORK.
fred the cybermat - an in-joke from the OG. There's a regular game of Survivor in the Timelash forum, and it's built up over the years to include a lot of side-games and, um, guest stars, like Peter Cushing, and that porter dude from Spearhead in Space and Fred, a Cybermat. He even has his own page in the Survivor wiki, cause it's that sort of a nauseatingly cliquey forum game. (Er, I do love it though.)
because stories are better when there aren't. Or I like them better, at any rate. Also it had a pretty drawing on it, yes. I have no idea where it's from, because I do go aforaging for icons and am shallow at things that are pretty to me.
from Men in Black! Because it amused me and Will Smith was right: little Tiffany did deserve to die. There's probably a deep message in there somewhere.
a quote from Black Books when Bernard is faced with a decision and has been given only two equally irritating choices. There are many, many quotable Black Books lines, but I feel this one constantly amuses me and is terribly versatile, yes.

First icon: This is a Buffy icon. It is in the musical episode, and this guy was singing about how his shirt was clean.
Second icon: It's from SG-1, and she kept trying to seduce him. To no avail for a very long time.
Third icon: This icon is a quote from the brilliant show Slings and Arrows. It's a very, very good show focusing on a Shakespeare festival in Canada.

Who's
hand is up your ass? (http://mooncalf.rydia.net/soulpuppetry/puppetshow.html) It was a bit someone blogged about the proliferation of "soulbonds" on the internet. I liked the concept and kept it around as an interest because the term explained very well what goes on when I write. Also, because it's a funny idea.
detective conan
It's a terrible, terrible kid's anime. It's about this teenage detective (the "modern day Sherlock Holmes") who, in the first episode, watches two shady guys in black do illegal stuff and promptly gets caught. Instead of shooting him, though, they give him an experimental drug and leave him to die. Instead it turns him into an eight year old kid. He runs around as an eight year old solving mysteries. It's hilarious and pretty fun to watch. Also, the damn thing is going on 400 episodes and the guy still hasn't found a cure.
millar licks goats
That's actually truncated. The full phrase is "Mark Millar licks goats". Recently Marvel had this ubermegacrossover, Civil War, written and organized by Mark Millar. All the crossover books had a cover that loked like this (http://www.cbgxtra.com/Portals/1/BG_Images/Civil%20War%201%20cover.jpg").
Nextwave, a parody comic written by
the Civil War covers. The top part of the image had the main characters holding up signs-- one of which had the aforementioned quote.
Since I think Mark Millar can't write worth bubkis, the comment describes pretty well my feelings towards him and anything he writes.

trick semes: Uh. Well. That's a relic from my days in anime fandom. >_>; Basically, it's the delicate boy that people assume is a bottom, but is really a top. An old injoke that comes back to haunt me every so often? :D
Icon 1: Haruhi from Ouran Host Club. First episode, before the real wackiness ensues. I actually never finished watching the series, but everyone needs a good 'bzuh?!' icon and that one just fits.
Icon 2: My Christmas icon. :D

Date: 2007-05-03 01:01 am (UTC)TV on DVD - Mainly Sci-Fi/Adventure, Sitcoms, and Cartoons from my Childhood. Even though America is the land of reruns on telly, I love the idea of being able to pop a favorite episode of a show I like into the player and watch it whenever I want, even though it may not have been on actual telly for up to thirty years or so. Plus, even if they aren't arc-based stuff like Babylon 5, I like the idea of television as "novel" entertainment. Even the non-connected stuff like, say, Are You Being Served?, is like a televisual fictional anthology featuring the same characters. It's like an evolved form of literature. Or something. And if we can pick up a book and read it whenever we like, why can't we do the same for television? I only wish they'd come out with "Custom DVDs" where you could order only the episodes you want, 4-8 per disc (depending on episode length). That way you wouldn't have to buy a whole season of a show you were only marginally interested in just for the privilege of seeing one particular episode.
Unrequited Love - I think it's very noble to love someone who doesn't love you back. In a way, it's the truest form of love, because it is tested every day by the other person's reluctance to return those feelings. Now, of course, there is stalkerism and other squicky stuff like that, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the (possibly foolish) pigheadedness of someone who knows how they feel about a person and isn't going to let a petty thing like distance, another person, or even death get in the way of loving that person. I'm talking Pip for Estella love here.
Rainy Days - I think rainy days are beautiful. Sunshine is often too bright for my eyes, but the way the rain turns everything a sort of a bluish-grey is very relaxing. I love to watch raindrops slide down window panes and see the pavement on the roads become shiny and wet. I also have a very middling to poor sense of smell. I can smell rain quite well though. Also, I have an intense phobia of getting stung by a wasp or a bee, and neither of those will come out to chase me on rainy days. In short, rainy days give me peace of mind. Oh, and like Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer's Island of Misfit Toys, I tend to like things that nobody else loves, and I think rainy days are one of the most underappreciated things God has ever made, so naturally I love them! :)
Icon #1 - I found this on the site of a fellow OG'er, and I just had to snurch it. Zoe with her catsuit unzipped? Gimme. I don't use it much unless the topic of sex comes up, and then it's either that or the topless Billie Piper pic. Zoe's mainly for "Sex Mad Fool"ery though, whereas the Billie one is more sensual.
Icon #2 - Screencap of John Rhys-Davies as "The Sheriff of San Francisco" from an early episode of Sliders. He's promoting his new book, "Everything I Say Is Right". I use this one when I KNOW what I'm talking about, or if I have an opinion that everyone should agree with unless they've left sanity in the jacket pocket of their overcoat, way in the back of the cloakroom.
Icon #3 - This is a screencap of a TurboGrafx16 game called Bravoman. It recently came out for the Wii's Virtual Console. The main character is going into a talking phone booth, for some reason, I'm not quite sure what. Haven't actually used this one yet, but I expect I'll use it when I talk about Jpop or foreign languages. It just seemed neat and reminded me of Doctor Who. :)
