Link from [livejournal.com profile] shaggydogstail: Prime Minister apologises for treatment of Alan Turing.

Reading it, I didn't expect to be as moved as I am. But, yeah.

And much as I despise Labour for other things, they have done a lot of good in terms of recognising LGBT rights. Thanks to Labour, the age of consent was lowered, gay couples (or single people) can adopt, gay couples can get a civil union that gives them the same rights as a married hetrosexual couple, gay men and women can serve openly in our military, gay women get access to IVF treatments, bloody section 28 got repealed...

So it's not suprising that they haven't been arses when it comes to this, but it's still darn good to see it happening.

A clause in the Local Government Act 1988 that prohibited the "promotion" of homosexuality (e.g. children's library books, though there was confusion over its applicability) or the assertion of a gay relationship as a "pretended family".

That ending of that statement is really powerful actually it is so simple and strong. I'm impressed.

I recently saw a documentary about Don't Ask Don't Tell and they interviewed British soldiers, gay and straight, who were kind of awesome in telling America to repeal it, you guys definitely have us beat in terms of LGBT rights. We didn't even get rid of all our sodomy laws until 6 years ago.
