Having just bought I'm Proud of the BBC, this seemed an appropriate way to procrastinate from not!Nano:

Below is a list of all the shows mentioned in Mitch Benn's I'm Proud of the BBC. Bold = love (or have loved) it, Plain text = neutral, Strike through = never seen / listened to. (And I'm gonna asterisk stuff I hate, just incase you get the craaaaazy idea I ain't got no telly standards at all just cause I can't give up SPN.) (OH GOD SO BAD LAST WEEK; of all the shows that have no right to have a go at Twilight for being shite...)

Newsround - Where I got me news when I was an wee one.
Newsnight - I like it so long as I don't get so pissed off I switch off the telly.
iPlayer - Most handy!
Website - This is where I can most of my news.
Toni Arthur - She was a Play School presenter. I did watch that, but alas, my four year old self did not love.
Brian Cant - He's been in Doctor Who! Thus love, obv.
Spooks - Harry & Ruth make this show for me. I am shallowly fond of Lucas. And once upon a time there was A Proper Team and that rocked mightily.
Adam Adamant - I should've seen more of this than I have.
Postman Pat - I caught an episode of Modern Postman Pat a few years ago and was HORRIFIED. He had THE INTERWEBS.

Quatermass - The Hammer films are pretty rocking, but the originals' have all the charm (although the first serial has a teeny tiny disadvantage of being two-thirds burninated.) Let us speak not of the horrid fake copy.
Two Ronnies* - I'M SORRY. I did love them briefly cause Patrick Troughton was in a sketch.
The Thick of It - AMAZINGNESS. Well done, meddow for a awesome pimpin post that meant I went and inhaled it in a couple of days.

My am dram director was a designer on Quatermass 2, apparently. We had to remind him of that - he's not losing his marbles or anything, it's just he's forgotten more great telly he's made than most people have even watched. Then this thing about him designing the original Blue Peter set came up and all I could think of to say was: 'was that the one the elephant shat on?'

What surprises me is how many of those names I recognized from across the pond. Truly, PBS does stand for "Primarily British Stuff."

Though do remember that not all of the British stuff on PBS or anywhere else is made by the BBC! Not even stuff marketed by BBC Worldwide (for instance, Primeval is marketed by BBC Worldwide but the BBC has no hand in it.)

Also that about a third of what is mentioned is Radio/Started on Radio rather than TV. (The News Quiz, Gardener's Question Time, Mayo and Kermode - a cult film review programme - Letter from America, Hancock's Half Hour, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy etc)

That's cause they're singing about BBC radio as well as telly.

Indeed, and Mitch himself is far more familiar from his spots on Radio 4's The Now Show! which would have been on my list. But I was really replying to airie_fairy's comment about the shows Mitch didn't mention being on PBS. Some British people who should have known better made suggestions about shows they supposed to have been on the Beeb that were, in fact, ITV shows. (The Avengers was mentioned, and Upstairs, Downstairs)

Though there are quite a few bits that were filmed off the TV screen and the film inserts used in the live broadcasts themselves that have survived, and were on the (wonderful) collected Quatermass DVD.

Ah. And I've just gone and looked up how the first two eps survived to satisfy me curiosity and *they* were recorded by the BBC as they were broadcast, but they gave up after that because they hate me.
