New Doctor Who on Friday! Undoubtedly not very much, but it's nice to have. A prologue (NOT A PREQUEL, BBC SITE) to this year's Christmas Special, and a preview of the Special, or, as we generally call them, an advert. STILL. Looking forward QUITE A LOT to this Christmas Special, both for The Latest One and due to shiny, shiny guest stars.

I am, however, going HMM at this publicity shot of the Doctor. STOP LOOKING AT ME WITH YOUR NARROWED EYES AND GLOOMY COSTUME, DOCTOR. MORE CHEER PLEASE.

There was also a thing about Neil Gaiman writing another episode and it has Cybermen and oh they are going to be SCARY AGAIN. Like they were in...whenever they were last scary. I don't know. Probably there was a time. One of my uncles used to freak the feck out about them and run out of the room, so says my Mum. So, y'know. Mostly I'm disappointed because "scary" doesn't mean "make them exactly like they were in the eighties". I LOVE EIGHTIES CYBERMEN SO MUCH.

I saw the trailer for the final season of Spartacus, WAR OF THE DAMNED, and it was awesome. It's just shot after shot of ridic OTT violence with ridic OTT blood. I'm relatively squeamish, but find the violence in Spartacus so cartoonish it never squicks me. BUT OH THE SPARTACUS DUDES I LOVE THEM. Even though they killed some of them and I DID NOT APPROVE. And they've taken away Lucretia and Ilithyia and their beautiful, perfect friendship of LIES AND BETRAYAL. But Crixus and Naevia are all alive and well and emotionally well-balanced I'm sure, and are going to have a heartwarming ending of happiness. Yes.

Is he wearing a lumpy scarf or are those lumpy lapels? And either way, why?

I am accepting of the Doctor perhaps being ~gloomy as he is probably still distressed to have forgotten that he can in fact still travel to New York and visit the Ponds in any number of other years that are not 1938. But he looks like a grumpy, creepy Tudor, and I am not sure how to feel about that. I like the watch thingy on his waistcoat, but the rest is very, as you say, hmm.

I haven't actually seen Spartacus, but I love the increasingly dramatic series titles. I mean Blood and Sand is only a little dramatic, but then it just escalates right up until WAR OF THE DAMNED, which I think it may be physically impossible to type without capslock. It's one of those weird things that makes me happy.

I really am curious about the Christmas special.

And we went to hear Neil Gaiman at a speaking engagement last night. He is an interesting speaker in that situation. Of course he was asked about the Doctor Who script but he stayed silent on the matter except for what was already talked about.
