OMG! THIS:

::FLAILS:: I am going to be a VERY GOOD EFFORT not to type this ENTIRE ENTRY in CAPSLOCK. MAGNETO. CHARLES. JAMES MCAVOY IS PROFESSOR X OMG.

BUT OH NEW X-MEN. NEW X-MEN THAT IS ALL ABOUT XAVIER AND MAGNETO. THEY ARE YOUNG AND PRETTY DOES THAT MEAN FANDOM WILL WRITE ALL THE FIC IN THE WORLD ABOUT THEM NOW? I hope so. I am trying not to be slightly YARG at the wee clips of the X-men trilogy for, lo, it is part of the same continuity and, yes, I loved the first movie and almost everything about the second one (everything I didn't like involved my going WTF at what they made Magneto do) and the third one...let us not talk of the third one IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. It DIDN'T HAPPEN because there is no way you can take the Dark Phoenix storyline and mess it up that badly. You just can't.

But, yes, LOOK AT IT. Look at 0.56, omg, THEY ARE ON A BED TOGETHER GOODNESS SAKE. IN SUITS.

AND THERE IS MYSTIQUE! AND EMMA FROST! Oh, dudes, Emma Frost was the sole reason I might've risked seeing that Wolverine thing but I couldn't quite bring myself to do it. Also, I am totally taking her appearance here in the sixties to make that awful thing uncanonical, yes.

In conclusion, I love the X-Men. And this looks amazing. (I haven't ever read a comic, btw - I should, but I have fear of what would happen, cause I suspect I'd end up wanting All The Comics and that could only end badly - all opinions were formed based on Saturday morning watchings of the brilliant early nineties cartoon, and I get well judgey at stuff that deviates from its view of the Xavier and Magneto relationship...I also forget they weren't ever actually, technically, according to what words really mean, a canonical couple. Except obviously they were.)

I'm SO GLAD you mentioned that because that completely slipped past me when I first watched that trailer! Now I like the prospect of this movie even more!

Also the third movie doesn't exist at all exceeeept the start is kinda cute with Xavier and Magneto all domestic as they're off to meet little Jean. That is the only part of that movie I've chosen to remember.

The nineties X-Men cartoon is what made me independently invent slash without ever having heard of it. There is NO OTHER EXPLANATION for their behaviour, especially during the parts of the show where they run around fighting dinosaurs together.

I thought Wolverine was alright, but "Emma"'s appearance was negligible, it could have been anybody with the ability to turn into a diamondy form. I was already annoyed by them not doing Deadpool properly anyways.

This is looking rather good and I trust Vaughn and Goldman a lot.

That looks really good and like it has a sense of history and everything. I haven't felt compelled to watch any of the past X-Men movies, but this is intriguing.

X-Men is an awful lot like Doctor Who in terms of a fandom to get into the canon of. Decades of backstory, ever-changing continuity, many spin-offs of varying degrees of canonicity, and too much back material to afford to collect even if you could acquire all of it. (My experience diving into the comics after the first X-Men movie was why I was so willing to roll up my sleeves and dive in to Classic Who.) I recommend googling and wikis to find out bare basics of the main comics storyline, and maybe buying some of the telephone-book-sized (but surprisingly cheap) Essentials collections for whatever titles you find of interest. Trying to acquire all the single issues is problematic (and can be expensive) but Marvel has been pretty good about releasing trade paperback collections, especially of the storylines that were considered particularly important.

also, whenever i read x-men comics and xavier speaks the voice i hear in ym head is still the voice actor from the 90s cartoon. <3
